Introduced in 1955 as a single-cutaway model, the Gibson Les Paul™ Special was the last of the original 1950s Les Paul variations to debut, aside from the sunburst Standards produced between 1958 and 1960. Designed as an upgraded Les Paul Junior, it offered greater tonal versatility with two P-90 pickups instead of one, along with refined touches like a bound fingerboard and a mother-of-pearl headstock logo.
